Ekman's model of emotion
Ekman's model of emotion identifies six basic human emotions: anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, and surprise. These emotions are universal across cultures and are expressed through specific facial expressions. Ekman proposed that these core emotions are evolutionary survival mechanisms, prompting appropriate reactions. The model helps us understand how we recognize and interpret emotions in ourselves and others through facial cues, and highlights that, despite cultural differences, these six emotions are fundamental to human experience.
