Education System in Ancient India

Ancient India's education system was highly developed, centered around religious and philosophical teachings. Gurukuls, residential schools run by gurus (teachers), were common, where students lived and learned scriptures, arts, sciences, and ethics. Education was often linked to spiritual growth, especially in Hinduism and Buddhism. Subjects like mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and logic were also studied. Education was primarily accessible to the Brahmins and other higher classes, although some Mlechchas (outsiders) and women could also study. Overall, it emphasized holistic development—mental, spiritual, and moral—shaping well-rounded individuals and contributing significantly to Indian culture.
