Eastern Equine Encephalitis

Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) is a rare but serious viral disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes, primarily affecting horses and humans. The virus circulates among birds and mosquitoes, and when a mosquito bites a person, it can transmit the virus. Symptoms typically include fever, headache, and chills, but in severe cases, it can cause inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), leading to neurological issues, coma, or death. EEE is most common in certain regions during mosquito-active seasons. Prevention includes avoiding mosquito bites through insect repellent, protective clothing, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed.
