Earth Room

The Earth Room is an art installation created by artist Walter De Maria, located in a New York City building. It features a large, underground space filled with approximately 22,000 pounds of dirt, spanning about 3,600 square feet and four and a half feet deep. This immersive environment invites viewers to experience the texture, scale, and tactile qualities of earth firsthand, prompting reflections on nature, space, and human perception.
