Earth Room
The Earth Room is an art installation created by artist Walter De Maria, located in a New York City building. It features a large, underground space filled with approximately 22,000 pounds of dirt, spanning about 3,600 square feet and four and a half feet deep. This immersive environment invites viewers to experience the texture, scale, and tactile qualities of earth firsthand, prompting reflections on nature, space, and human perception. The installation emphasizes the mundane yet profound presence of natural elements within urban settings, transforming an ordinary substance into a contemplative art piece.
