Dyskeratosis Congenita

Dyskeratosis Congenita is a rare, inherited condition that affects the body's ability to produce healthy blood cells and maintain normal skin, nails, and mucous membranes. It results from problems with telomeres—protective caps on the ends of chromosomes—which leads to premature cell aging and tissue damage. Individuals often present with abnormal skin pigmentation, nail issues, and mouth sores. The condition can also cause bone marrow failure, increasing the risk of anemia and infections, and is associated with a higher likelihood of developing certain cancers. It requires ongoing medical management to address its diverse symptoms and complications.
