Dutch legal system
The Dutch legal system is based on civil law, meaning laws are primarily codified in statutes. It has three main branches: the judiciary, which interprets laws; the legislature, which creates laws; and the executive, which enforces them. Courts are independent, and cases can be heard at various levels, including local and higher courts. The Supreme Court is the highest authority. The system emphasizes legal certainty and the protection of individual rights, and it includes various specialized courts, such as those for administrative and commercial cases. Legal professionals must be trained and licensed to practice law in the Netherlands.
