The Dutch Empire was a global maritime power during the 17th and 18th centuries, established by the Netherlands through trade, exploration, and colonization. It included territories in Asia (like Indonesia), the Americas (such as Suriname and parts of the Caribbean), Africa, and other regions. The Dutch focused on controlling trade routes and establishing profitable colonies, especially through the Dutch East India Company and Dutch West India Company.
