Donner Party
The Donner Party was a group of American pioneers who, in 1846, attempted to migrate westward to California. They faced severe hardships after becoming stranded in the Sierra Nevada mountains during a harsh winter, with limited supplies and mounting difficulties. Many members suffered from starvation, exposure, and illness. Some resorted to cannibalism to survive. Rescue efforts eventually saved those who remained alive, but the ordeal highlighted the risks of westward expansion and the challenges faced by early settlers traveling difficult terrains.
