Dominion of Pakistan

The Dominion of Pakistan was a semi-independent state established in 1947 when British India was divided, comprising two separate regions: West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). It operated under the British Crown’s sovereignty but had its own government and constitution. The dominion status meant it was self-governing in many internal matters but still recognized the British monarch as the head of state. This arrangement lasted until 1956, when Pakistan declared itself a republic, fully independent and no longer a dominion within the Commonwealth.
