Dominion of India
The Dominion of India was the constitutional status given to India between 1947 and 1950 after gaining independence from British rule. It meant that India was a self-governing nation within the British Commonwealth, with its own government and constitution, but still recognizing the British monarch as the ceremonial head of state. During this period, India had full control over its internal affairs but remained linked to Britain in a formal constitutional framework. In 1950, India transitioned to a fully independent republic, establishing its own sovereignty and head of state, ending the dominion status.
