Domestic Support Obligations
Domestic Support Obligations (DSOs) refer to court-ordered payments intended to support a person's living expenses, typically arising from divorce or child custody cases. These obligations include child support, spousal support (alimony), and sometimes payments for medical or educational costs. DSOs are legally binding and prioritize obligations to ensure that dependents are financially supported after a separation. Failure to meet these obligations can lead to legal consequences, including wage garnishment or other enforcement actions. Essentially, DSOs ensure that both spouses, especially children, are provided for financially following the dissolution of a partnership.
