Dolostone
Dolostone is a type of sedimentary rock primarily composed of the mineral dolomite, which is similar to limestone but with magnesium added. It forms through chemical processes where magnesium-rich fluids alter limestone, or by direct precipitation in aquatic environments. Dolostone is often gray, tan, or brown, and has a crystalline structure. It’s used in construction, as a source of magnesium, and in the manufacturing of ceramics and glass. It plays a vital role in the carbon cycle by storing carbon dioxide in the Earth’s crust and is commonly found in regions with ancient marine deposits.
