diverticulectomy

Diverticulectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove a small pouch called a diverticulum that forms in the wall of the digestive tract, usually in the colon. These pouches develop due to weaknesses in the intestinal wall, often caused by increased pressure. If the diverticulum causes symptoms like pain, infection, or bleeding, surgery may be needed. During a diverticulectomy, the surgeon carefully excises the affected pouch and reconnects the healthy parts of the intestine. This procedure aims to eliminate symptoms and prevent complications such as inflammation or perforation.
