Disc Replacement
Disc replacement is a surgical procedure used to treat severe back pain caused by damaged intervertebral discs, which are the cushions between the bones in the spine. During the operation, the damaged disc is removed and replaced with an artificial disc made of metal and plastic. This helps restore the normal function of the spine, allowing for better movement and reducing pain. Unlike spinal fusion, which immobilizes adjacent vertebrae, disc replacement preserves more natural spinal motion. It is typically considered when other treatments, such as physical therapy or medications, have not provided adequate relief.
