Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

The Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) is a part of the U.S. Department of State responsible for regulating the export of military and defense-related items, technology, and services. Its goal is to ensure that these exports do not threaten national security, foreign policy, or international stability. Companies and individuals must obtain necessary licenses before transferring defense-related goods or information internationally. DDTC enforces compliance with laws such as the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and works to prevent unauthorized or improper dissemination of sensitive defense technologies.
