Didier Queloz

Didier Queloz is a Swiss astronomer renowned for discovering the first exoplan planet orbiting a sun-like star, 51 Pegasi, in 1995. This groundbreaking discovery showed that planets outside our solar system are common, opening a new field in astronomy. Queloz's work helped scientists better understand planetary systems and the potential for life beyond Earth. He has received numerous awards, including the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2019, shared with Michel Mayor, his collaborator on the discovery. His contributions significantly advanced our knowledge of the universe and the possibilities of extraterrestrial life.
