Diastolic dysfunction

Diastolic dysfunction occurs when the heart's left ventricle doesn’t relax properly between heartbeats, which impairs its ability to fill with blood. This can lead to reduced blood flow to the body and increased pressure in the lungs, causing symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue. It often happens due to stiffening or thickening of the heart muscle, commonly associated with aging or conditions like high blood pressure. While the heart's pumping ability remains normal, its ability to fill efficiently is compromised, affecting overall cardiac function and potentially leading to heart failure if untreated.
