Diagnostic criteria for Alcohol Use Disorder
Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is diagnosed based on specific criteria from the DSM-5. It includes a pattern of alcohol use that leads to distress or impairment, evidenced by behaviors such as drinking more than planned, struggling to cut down, spending significant time drinking, and continuing to drink despite negative consequences. Other signs include cravings for alcohol, neglecting responsibilities, and developing tolerance or withdrawal symptoms. If you experience two or more of these symptoms within a year, it may indicate AUD, which can range from mild to severe, and professional help is recommended for management.
