Detention
Detention refers to a period of time in which a person is kept in a specific place, often by authorities, as a form of punishment or while awaiting further action. In schools, students may be given detention as a consequence for misbehavior, requiring them to spend extra time on school premises. In a legal context, detention involves holding someone, usually by law enforcement, for questioning or to ensure they appear in court. It can be temporary and does not necessarily mean the person has been charged with a crime.
