Deserts are regions characterized by very low rainfall, typically receiving less than 10 inches (25 centimeters) annually. This limited precipitation results in sparse vegetation and extreme conditions such as high temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures at night. Deserts can be hot, like the Sahara, or cold, like Antarctica. They often have sandy or rocky landscapes and are shaped by factors like wind, dry climate, and drainage patterns. Despite their harshness, deserts host specialized plants and animals adapted to survive in these demanding environments.
