Desert Recluse (Loxosceles deserta)
The Desert Recluse (Loxosceles deserta) is a venomous spider found in arid regions of the southwestern United States. It is small, typically brownish, with long, slender legs and a distinctive violin-shaped mark on its back. It primarily stays hidden beneath rocks, debris, or in dark, undisturbed areas. Its bite may cause skin irritation, redness, and in rare cases, more serious tissue damage or systemic symptoms. The spider is generally shy and bites only when disturbed. Proper identification and caution are advised to avoid bites, especially in areas where the Desert Recluse is common.
