DENV (Dengue virus serotypes)
Dengue virus (DENV) has four related but distinct versions called serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. When someone is infected with one serotype, they gain immunity to that specific type but not the others. Future infections with a different serotype can increase the risk of severe dengue illness. These serotypes are transmitted mainly through Aedes mosquitoes, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Understanding the serotypes helps in vaccine development and predicting disease patterns, as having immunity to one serotype doesn't fully protect against the others.
