Density Separation
Density separation is a process that sorts materials based on their density, or how much mass they have in a given volume. When mixtures are placed in a liquid with a specific density, lighter materials float while heavier ones sink. This technique is often used in recycling or mineral processing to separate different types of materials efficiently. For example, in recycling, plastic types with different densities can be separated by immersing them in a liquid that allows each to float or sink accordingly, simplifying sorting and improving purity.
