Delict
A delict is a legal term for a civil wrong or wrongful act that causes harm or loss to another person, for which the law provides a remedy. It is similar to the concept of tort in other legal systems. If someone commits a delict—such as negligence, defamation, or assault—they can be held responsible and required to compensate the injured party. Essentially, delict law ensures that individuals are accountable for actions that infringe on others’ rights or deliverable interests, encouraging responsible behavior and providing a pathway for victims to seek justice through compensation.
