Deixis
Deixis refers to words or phrases that require contextual information to convey their full meaning, such as "I," "here," or "now." These terms shift in meaning based on who is speaking, where they are, and when they are speaking. In pragmatics, which studies language in context, deixis highlights how language depends on the situation. For instance, "I will meet you here tomorrow" is clear only when we understand who "I" is, what "here" refers to, and what "tomorrow" means in that moment. Understanding deixis helps in comprehending everyday conversations and interactions.
