Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP)

The Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) was a pioneering scientific effort starting in 1968 to study the Earth's ocean floor. Using specially equipped drilling ships, scientists collected core samples from beneath the seabed to learn about Earth's history, climate change, plate tectonics, and oceanography. These samples revealed important insights into how the Earth has evolved over millions of years, including evidence for the theory of plate movements and the age of oceanic crust. The DSDP laid the groundwork for modern ocean drilling and geoscience research, significantly advancing our understanding of Earth's dynamic processes beneath the oceans.
