Deep packet inspection
Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is a network technology used to analyze the data packets sent over the internet. Unlike basic filtering, which only checks the packet's header information, DPI examines the content of these packets in detail. This allows network administrators to monitor and control internet traffic, enhance security by detecting malicious activity, and optimize bandwidth usage. DPI is often used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and organizations to enforce policies or detect unwanted content, but it also raises privacy concerns since it can access personal data being transmitted online.
