Deep Impact
Deep Impact was a space mission launched by NASA in 2005 to study a comet called Tempel 1. The goal was to learn more about the composition and structure of comets, which are icy remnants from the early solar system. To do this, NASA sent a spacecraft that intentionally crashed into the comet, releasing material from its surface. This impact created a debris cloud that scientists studied using telescopes. The experiment provided valuable insights into the makeup of comets, helping scientists understand the building blocks of our solar system and assess potential comet impact threats to Earth.
