Decembrist Revolt

The Decembrist Revolt was an 1825 uprising in Russia, where a group of military officers and nobles, inspired by ideas of reform and liberalism, attempted to overthrow the autocratic Tsar Nicholas I. They sought to establish a constitutional government and limit the power of the monarchy. The revolt took place in Saint Petersburg and was quickly suppressed, resulting in the arrest and execution of many leaders. Although unsuccessful, it highlighted growing dissatisfaction with absolute rule and inspired future movements for political change in Russia.
