DDT in the food chain

DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) is a synthetic pesticide once widely used to control insects. However, it can accumulate in the food chain, meaning that as small organisms absorb DDT, larger animals that eat them take in even more. This process, known as biomagnification, can lead to high concentrations in top predators, such as birds of prey. Over time, DDT can cause serious health issues, including reproductive problems and a decline in certain species. Due to these effects, DDT was banned in many countries, but its legacy continues to impact ecosystems.
