The Dark Universe was a planned series of films by Universal Pictures intended to modernize and revive its classic monster movie legacy, including characters like Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Mummy. Announced in 2017, it kicked off with "The Mummy" starring Tom Cruise. However, the film received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office. Despite initial aspirations for interconnected films similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series was put on indefinite hold. Universal has since shifted focus, exploring standalone projects rather than a cohesive franchise.
