
Daniel Hale Williams
Daniel Hale Williams was an influential African American surgeon and one of the first to perform open-heart surgery successfully. Born in 1856, he founded the first non-segregated hospital in the United States, Provident Hospital, in Chicago, providing opportunities for Black medical professionals. Williams was also a pioneer in advancing surgical techniques and promoting racial integration in medicine.
