Dams and Levees

Dams and levees are structures built to manage water. A dam is a barrier constructed across a river to hold back water, creating reservoirs for drinking, irrigation, and hydroelectric power. It controls water flow and can prevent floods. In contrast, a levee is an earthen or concrete embankment built alongside rivers or lakes to protect land from flooding. While both serve to manage water and protect communities, dams are primarily for water storage and generation, while levees focus on preventing overflow and protecting adjacent areas from high water levels.
