Dalai Lama (Tibetan Buddhism Leader)

The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and is considered an important figure in promoting compassion, peace, and mindfulness. The title "Dalai Lama" means "Ocean of Wisdom," and the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the 14th in a line of leaders believed to be the reincarnations of a bodhisattva—a being dedicated to helping others achieve enlightenment. Although he has lived in exile since fleeing Tibet in 1959, he continues to advocate for non-violence and the preservation of Tibetan culture and religious practices, playing a significant role in global discussions on spirituality and human rights.
