Cyclooxygenase
Cyclooxygenase, or COX, is an enzyme in your body that helps produce prostaglandins—chemical mediators involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. There are two main types: COX-1, which protects stomach lining and supports normal functions, and COX-2, which is more active during inflammation and pain. Medications like aspirin and ibuprofen work by inhibiting COX enzymes, reducing pain, swelling, and fever. This process helps manage symptoms but can also affect other body functions, which is why these drugs should be used carefully under medical guidance.
