Cuban War of Independence

The Cuban War of Independence (1895-1898) was a struggle by Cubans to gain freedom from Spanish colonial rule. Inspired by growing national identity and discontent with Spanish control, Cuba sought independence through guerrilla warfare and revolutionary activities. The conflict intensified tensions between Spain and the United States, eventually leading to U.S. intervention after the sinking of the battleship USS Maine. The war ended with Spain relinquishing control, and Cuba temporarily became a U.S. protectorate. In 1902, Cuba officially gained independence, although the U.S. maintained significant influence over its affairs until later decades.
