Cuban Claims Program

The Cuban Claims Program is a U.S. government initiative that addresses financial claims by American citizens against the Cuban government for property losses, primarily stemming from the Cuban Revolution in the 1950s. When the Cuban government nationalized businesses and properties, many Americans sought compensation. The program, established by the Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity (LIBERTAD) Act of 1996, allows claimants to file for compensation through the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission, potentially leading to financial restitution when U.S.-Cuba relations improve or through negotiations for future agreements.
