Crystal Palace Park Dinosaurs

Crystal Palace Park, located in London, is famous for its Victorian-era dinosaur sculptures. Created in the 1850s by artist Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins and paleontologist Richard Owen, these sculptures were among the first attempts to visualize dinosaurs based on the fossil records available at the time. The life-sized models, including a stunningly detailed Iguanodon and a fierce Megalosaurus, were intended to educate the public about prehistoric life. Although they are not scientifically accurate by today’s standards, they represent a significant moment in the history of paleontology and Victorian public art, attracting visitors for their historical and artistic value.
