Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a technique used to visualize tiny biological structures, like proteins or viruses, at nearly atomic resolution. Samples are rapidly frozen to preserve their natural shape without forming ice crystals, then imaged with a powerful electron microscope at very cold temperatures. This process allows scientists to see detailed 3D structures of biological molecules in their close-to-native state, helping advance our understanding of their functions and mechanisms critical for medical and scientific research.
