Count Baldwin of Edessa

Count Baldwin of Edessa was a nobleman and military leader during the First Crusade in the late 11th century. He played a significant role in establishing and defending the Crusader states in the Levant, especially as the Count of Edessa, one of the first Crusader states. Known for his leadership and strategic skills, Baldwin helped shape the early history of Christian holdouts in the East. He is also notable as the father of Baldwin II, who later became the King of Jerusalem. His efforts contributed to the Frankish presence in the Holy Land during a pivotal period of medieval history.
