Council Republic of Bavaria

The Council Republic of Bavaria was a short-lived socialist government established in April 1919 in Germany’s Bavaria region, following the end of World War I. It was characterized by workers' and soldiers' councils taking power, aiming to create a more egalitarian society through revolutionary change, inspired by broader socialist movements. The republic attempted to implement radical social reforms but faced opposition from both right-wing forces and the central government. Its existence lasted only a few months before being crushed in May 1919, leading to a return to more traditional governance structures in Bavaria.
