Coronary Heart Disease

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) occurs when the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle, become narrowed or blocked due to buildup of cholesterol and fatty deposits called plaque. This reduces blood flow, potentially causing chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, or heart attacks if a blockage completely stops blood flow. CHD often results from risk factors like high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol, and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Managing these factors through lifestyle changes and medication can help prevent or treat the condition, preserving heart health and reducing the risk of serious complications.
