corona discharge

Corona discharge is a process where a high-voltage electrical field ionizes the surrounding air around a sharp or pointed conductor. When voltage exceeds a certain threshold, it causes the air molecules near the conductor to become charged, creating a faint, visible glow or corona. This effect often produces small electrical sparks and ozone. Corona discharge is used in air purification, ozone generation, and electrical testing, but it can also lead to energy losses and material erosion in high-voltage equipment. It occurs naturally around power lines and other energized conductors with sharp points.
