Corbel arches

Corbel arches are constructed by placing progressively smaller stones or bricks, called corbels, that extend slightly beyond the previous layer. Each corbel projects outward, gradually forming a curved archway or support. This technique distributes weight across the structure, allowing for the creation of openings like doorways or ceilings without the need for traditional arch shapes. Corbeling was commonly used in ancient architecture, such as in ancient Greece and Asia, and provides stability while showcasing craftsmanship in stone or masonry work.
