Coquí

A coquí is a small tree frog native to Puerto Rico, known for its distinctive, repetitive call that sounds like "co-quí." These frogs are about 1 to 2 inches long and are notable cultural symbols of Puerto Rico. The name "coquí" comes from the sound their call makes. They are primarily nocturnal and prefer humid, forested environments. Coquí frogs play an important role in their ecosystem by controlling insect populations. Due to habitat loss and invasive species, some coquí populations are threatened, making them a focus of conservation efforts.
