Consistency Theory
Consistency theory in the context of general knowledge suggests that our beliefs and knowledge should be coherent and logically connected. When we encounter new information, we assess it against what we already know, striving for a harmonious understanding. If a new piece of information contradicts our existing beliefs, we may feel discomfort, prompting us to either adjust our beliefs or find ways to justify the inconsistency. This theory emphasizes that for our knowledge to be reliable and meaningful, it must be consistent and integrated into a broader framework of understanding.
