Conquest of the Carpathian Basin
The Conquest of the Carpathian Basin refers to the migration of the Hungarian tribes into Central Europe around the 9th and 10th centuries. Led by Árpád, they moved into the region, which had been inhabited by various peoples and was part of the declining Carolingian Empire. They established control over the area, integrating with local populations and forming the foundations of the medieval Hungarian state. This process was gradually completed by the late 10th century, shaping Hungary’s cultural and political identity for centuries.
