Conn's syndrome

Conn's syndrome, also known as primary aldosteronism, is a condition where the adrenal glands produce too much the hormone aldosterone. This hormone helps regulate blood pressure and sodium-water balance. Excess aldosterone causes the body to retain sodium and water, leading to increased blood volume and higher blood pressure. It can also cause low potassium levels, resulting in symptoms like muscle weakness or fatigue. Typically, Conn's syndrome is caused by a benign tumor or enlargement of one adrenal gland. It is diagnosed through hormone tests and treated with medication or surgery to remove the overactive gland, often leading to improved blood pressure control.
