Confederate States Congress

The Confederate States Congress was the national legislative body of the Confederate States of America, formed by eleven southern states that seceded from the United States during the Civil War (1861-1865). It functioned similarly to the U.S. Congress, passing laws, debating policies, and managing the Confederate government’s affairs. Its main goal was to support the Confederacy’s independence, but it faced significant challenges due to wartime conditions and internal disagreements. The Congress operated from 1862 until the Confederacy’s defeat in 1865, ultimately failing to establish a lasting nation separate from the United States.
