Confederate Navy

The Confederate Navy was the naval branch of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Its goal was to challenge Union naval superiority, blockade Southern ports, and defend Confederate coastlines. The navy built a mix of ships, including ironclads, cruisers, and blockade runners, to disrupt Union supply lines and control key waterways. Despite limited resources compared to the Union Navy, the Confederate Navy employed innovative tactics and vessels to resist Union advances and maintain some level of maritime independence.
